In the first week of August, I will be leaving things in the capable hands of assistant editor Alex Mudge for a week+a day, as real life intercedes into my digital workplace.
I will be flying the coop to Mexico City for a week+a day of international AIDS researching. This is my first time in the D.F. so I am looking for recommendations of things to do and see.
Any readers experienced some great music spots in Mexico?
So this just in: this is the line-up of the 10th year of our charmed city’s High Zero Festival, hosted by the Red Room. It showcases all that is good and right and discomforting in music experimentation. I’m excited for Arrington de Dionyso, eccentric, Tuvan-throat-singing front-man of the jaw-dropping, intimidating well-spring of experimental rockknown as Old Time Relijun (Wiki).
Enjoy these tracks off their 2007 LP Catharsis in Crisis and read on for the full festival line-up.

We completely understand the uncertain nature of booking an event such as Whartscape. and the changes in venues will be immediately reported as we are made aware of them. Keep on keepin on.
Update 06/30/2008 1052AM: Hmm, here’s what the Myspace bulletin says this morning, and it looks pretty similar to what we initially reported. Check it after the jump:
Kanye finally breaks his silence on the Bonnaroo fiasco here.
Choice quotes from the article:
West also blamed thrown bottles for malfunctions with his “Jane screen.” (In the concept concert, Jane is the HAL-like disembodied female robotic voice of his spaceship.)
West concluded by saying his elaborate stage cuts his payday in half and leaves him icing his knees.
Are you fucking serious? Come on man, that is some ridiculous shit. Are we supposed to be ok with this now that he apologized and then whined and diatribed and shifted blame everywhere but to himself? The man is like a ranting child. Check his hilarious blog entry after the jump:
This just in – Wham City is still kicking ass and taking names.
Hot off the heels of the announcement of Whartscape 2008′s initial line-up, we find news in the inbox that recent Wham City/Bmore-by-way-of-North Carolina resident Adventure (aka Benny Boeldt) just signed up with Carpark Records and will issue his self-titled debut LP this September.
Adventure joins up with a slew of other Bmore and Wham City notables on DC-based Carpark, including one of the Wham-crew patriarchs, Dan Deacon, Beach House, Video Hippos, Ecstatic Sunshine and WZT Hearts.
Enjoy this cut off the self-titled LP. And be sure to stop by Benny’s show at the Talking Head on June 5.

Oh boy, get your armor on. This is gonna be intense in the best way. I am going to Bonnaroo, but honestly, I will probably have a much better time when Whartscape rolls around.
Baltimore – meet Concrete Prophet (if you haven’t encountered them in a previous incarnation). They will be pummeling your head in now.
Born out of a network of connections and friendships at Towson’s music department, since 2005 they have been playing the area, showcasing their take on progressive rock. Their current line-up consists of Nicholas James (vocals), Kevin Boenning (guitar), Michael Passen (bass), and Brian Dobbs (drums).
The guys were kind enough to share a medley of some early live audio recorded at a recent performance at Metro Rock University in Virginia, some of the first audio released featuring newest addition, vocalist Nicholas James.
