MP3: Lo Moda – Les Jardins (De L’bouli) from Gospel Store Front

Before even knowing Peter Quinn was affiliated with Lo Moda, I recognized him sitting next to me on the wooden benches that lined the Ottobar. He sat with a mysterious look in his eye, slowly sipping on a glass of red wine while Hex Message performed on stage.

I was only somewhat moved by the performances of either Hex or Ecstatic Sunshine — a local favorite that, I’m sad to say, barely excited the crowd. The sound never caught you off guard or surprised you…at least the way I ambient/ electronic music should, triggering the deepest of emotions and shaping the imagination. LO MOdA Live @ Creative Alliance

Part 2 of our exclusive recordings from the Wye Oak/LO MOdA show at Creative Alliance this past Saturday (courtesy of Jeff the Baltimore Taper). LO MOdA opened for Wye Oak with a fantastic set.

Their music is like the sinister and brooding lovechild of Fugazi, Q and Not U, Talking Heads, !!!. Kinetic bass, angular guitar work and definition-of-urgency vocals all laid atop a lush, exotic foundation poured by the drums and viola.

And at the Patterson, this provided the perfect soundtrack to the spliced clips from Turkish Star Wars projected onto the back wall.

Stream the set after the jump or download the MP3 or FLAC files. Thanks again to Jeff for excellent work.

Beach House and Wye Oak shows this week

Just a friendly reminder to one and all that two of Baltimore’s Pitchfork-approved superstars, Beach House and Wye Oak, both have hometown shows this week.

Beach House kicks off their tour tonight with a record release show for Devotion at the G-Spot. Doors at 8, show at 9. Tickets are $8. Papercuts opens.

Wye Oak has a show this Saturday at the Creative Alliance over by Patterson Park. Also $8 at 8PM with LO MOdA opening.

Support local music and see these kids before they REALLY blow up.
