i stumbled across this album a month or two ago and it never seems to get old.... listen to this with headphones or a good stereo to get the full effect. this guy is a genius and while he may not be praised by some, anyone with an open mind will appreciate this album as much as i do.

Zack-

I figured that was your line of thinking but didn't want to put words in your mouth.

While there may be other "landmark" albums for aficionados, Deacon's efforts may be some of the best in recent years at bridging the gap between the ultra-dense, cliquish and purposefully esoteric world of electronic music and the more mainstream, casually listenable pop/rock sensibilities. i think dan's biggest talent is he does this really well on bromst, and doesn't disservice either genre in the process.

Although I may lack the expertise to decide what's up for debate as a seminal electronic album, I'm sticking to my guns on this one. Not one of Deacon's peers--at least not anyone as highly visible--has produced an album that sounds anything like this. Certainly not one as mature and entertaining from start to finish. If you beg to differ, I'd like to hear some other suggestions.

What really excites me about this album, and why it's going to stand the test of time, is that it does as good a job of reaching out to a pop/rock audience as artists like Stereolab or the Avalanches. You don't necessarily have to be a fan of electronic music to like those guys and the same I imagine will be true of Bromst.

i like this album a lot.

and i think it's hilarious that for each instance of hype, there is an equal and opposite anti-hype that is just as unbalanced that has been steadily responding like clockwork.

dan's doing some great stuff, and has a lot more complexity than his detractors, blinded by his success or preconceived notions about his fanbase, are willing to concede or take the time to notice. i'm sure the live show this weekend will be absolutely gangbusters. though i am also not likely to designate it one of the best albums of the decade or a seminal electronic album.

I think I might agree with Alex; It hasn't truly blown me away that hard-- BUT...

I love it exponentially more than any of his past efforts. I really admire him singing with less effects, and the boldness of the album in general.

I think it's *really* gonna grow on me-- I don't see it being the best album of the decade. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS LIVE WITH PLAYERS!!!

***Bromst isn’t just Dan Deacon’s best album, or one of the landmark albums of electronic music: it’s one of the best albums of the decade.***

Whoa...unfounded, hyperbolic opinion-disguised-as-statement alert!

This album doesn't even register anywhere close, and I mean light-years away from being a "landmark album of electronic music." This is not up for debate when you compare Bromst to the true seminal albums of electronic music.

***...the genre we old-school indie-rockers had secretly imagined was a flash-in-the-pan...***

What genre is this specifically? The Dan Deacon (and a few knock-offs like Deastro) camp of art-school dance? Or, is this a broader statement aimed at a larger target--electronic music?
